In 1893 George Washington Scribner, being lured into farming by the rich, deep soils of the Sacramento River Delta, settled along what is now called Scribner Bend. The river bend became a vital shipping point, picking up produce, mail and passengers by steamboat.
The Scribner family has been in California for 5 generations, beginning with George Washington Scribner in 1873. The ranch runs along the Sacramento Delta where the family has farmed for over 100 years.
The original barn built in 1918 was featured in Sunset Magazine’s March issue “Winter Roaming along the Sacramento River” in 2002. Today the barn has been completely 2003. renovated and transformed to offer a unique tasting experience.
In August of 2007 Scribner Bend completed its new Barrel and Crushing facility which allowed us to expand and experiment with new blends and varietals. The production of Scribner wine is forever changing with the new trends in the wine industry and Mark is always looking to introduce something new and exciting as he did with our flag-ship wine, Black Hat Tempranillo.
Also in November 2007 we completed our new indoor Tuscan room for private events, anniversary parties, small weddings and corporate events. Our Tuscan room is complete with large chandeliers and a beautifully designed Tuscan fireplace. In addition to smaller, more intimate gatherings, Scribner Bend offers the Chardonnay Gardens and the beautiful Fountain Courtyard for gatherings of up to 225. Additional entertaining space was added in 2015 and includes an outdoor pizza oven, catering duties by Paesanos Italian Restaurant and music weekly in the warmer months.
Scribner Bend Wine Club members “Benders” continue to be a vital part of our winery. Each year Mark and Lorraine serve up new ideas for Wine Club members while continuing their commitment to produce only the best quality wines. Our family and staff strive to make every experience with Scribner Bend one that will always be a wonderful and memory for years to come.
