Delta Farmers Market is owned by Ken and Laura Gregory Scheidegger. Ken and Laura also own Gregory Farm located on Twitchell Island. Fruit from Gregory Farm’s orchard has been enjoyed by California Delta and San Francisco Bay Area people for over two generations when Warren Gregory first planted fruit trees in 1985. Originally serving as a U-Pick, the abundance of excellent fruit soon found its way to select markets around Northern California. Shipped in signature yellow buckets, the fruit has gained a reputation for flavor, quality, and uniqueness. Warren’s willingness to experiment in planting new varieties not typically grown in the Delta resulted in the diversity of fruit and the long selling season from May through November.
Warren’s daughter, Laura, and her three children, Gregory, Kristianna, and Xander, carry on the tradition of growing over 50 varieties of stone fruit as well as 5 varieties of Asian Pears. Other fruit grown includes pomegranates, persimmons, and apples. They also use organic methods in growing tomatoes and a wide variety of other veggies specifically for their DFM customers. All Gregory Farm produce is sold still in the signature yellow buckets through their Delta Farmers Market that Ken and Laura opened in 2010. Ken and Laura’s goal is to open an education center all about the Delta. All proceeds from the Delta Farmers Market support the Discover the Delta Foundation Education Center, teaching people about the Heart of California. www.discoverthedelta.com
